1. A company that has been very dominant in social media that I use and most of us use is Instagram. I am most familiar with this company and the intellectual property because I have used it from when it first started, to today. The company has always been strong on protecting its intellectual property because it has always wanted people feeling safe while posting what they want to post. The protection of copyright is one that is one of the biggest for creators due to the possibility of people taking their ideas and using it for themselves. To continue with intellectual property for Instagram, another that is focused on is trademark. For users, they may post art, symbols, or ideas to share their work. With trademark, it is to protect the consumers for not accidentally purchasing and enquiring a product from the wrong company. Some people may use another companies symbol for their own wrong uses and try to sell a fake or off brand item while pretending to be the actual brand that is selling that item.

2. Nike’s Intellectual Property

Nike is one of the biggest names in sportswear, making everything from shoes to clothes to gear. Part of the reason Nike has been so successful is because it protects its intellectual property (IP), which includes things like patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. For example, Nike has patents for some of their cool tech, like the Nike Air cushioning system and Flyknit shoes. Their trademarks, like the famous Swoosh logo and the name “Nike,” are recognized worldwide. They also have copyrights that protect their designs and ads. On top of that, Nike keeps some things secret, like their manufacturing processes, so competitors can’t copy them.

Why Protecting Intellectual Property Matters for Nike

Protecting its IP is super important for Nike because it helps them stay ahead of the competition. By having patents on their tech, like Nike Air and Flyknit, Nike makes sure no one else can copy their inventions (Rosenberg, 2020). Their trademark, the Swoosh, is instantly recognizable and helps keep their brand strong. Copyrights keep their product designs unique, and trade secrets protect things like their production methods, so no one else can easily copy their process and compete on the same level.

Conclusion

In short, Nike’s intellectual property helps them stay on top of the game in the sportswear industry. By protecting their designs, tech, and brand, they keep a competitive edge. Without these protections, others could copy their products, and Nike could lose its spot as the leader in the market.
