ASSIGNMENT DETAILS FOR OUTLINE OF SCHOLARLY PAPER

Outline of Scholarly Paper based off of counseling Families and their adolescents through problems and the pros and cons of counseling.

A good scholarly paper begins with a clear focus and plans for the synthesis of scholarly literature and other reputable sources. Through this assignment, students will outline their paper and will receive feedback from the instructor before writing their paper. The student should prepare the outline using an outline format (i.e., headings, sub-headings, bulleted statements, lists*).

The outline will be reviewed for clarity, critical thinking, and analysis so that the end product is a logical, well-supported synthesis of reputable information around a focused topic associated with adolescents and their families. Please put time and effort into your outlines! The more work you do up front the better place you will be for the final paper. If you have questions along the way please email me.

Using an outline format, the outline should include, but not be limited to:

Statement of the topic or issue. Include relevant definitions.

Brief statement about your interest in the topic; what motivated you to choose it?

Prevalence and/or scope of the topic or issue. For example, is the topic of interest internationally

or only in the United States? Is it gender, race, economic status, age, geographically specific? List

other parameters you plan to use to delineate (e.g., outline or define) the topic.

List of theories, frameworks, approaches you plan to use that help explain how you will approach

the topic; the “lens” you will use to thinking critically and synthesize the information you gather.

Include a list of 3-4 scholarly sources that you have identified that will be used in the main body

of the paper. Remember, you are to have at least 10-12 scholarly sources and/or reports from

reputable, unbiased sources for the paper.

List of Keywords or phrases that you will use to conduct your literature review.

List of online sources (e.g., PsychINFO, Google Scholar, Institution’s Library) that you will use to

conduct your literature review.

Optimal timeline by which to complete and submit your final scholarly paper.

Plan to integrate course materials, concepts.
