My Philosophy of Classroom Management

Assignment Overview:

The purpose of this assignment is to explore various classroom management philosophies through research and design your own philosophy of classroom management. This will help you develop a foundational understanding of existing classroom management philosophies and how they align with your beliefs and values as an educator.

Many school districts have also been known to ask potential new teachers about their personal philosophies of classroom management in initial interviews. This assignment is designed to help you be prepared for that discussion and help you feel confident in future interviews.

Assignment Components:

1. Research

Investigate at least three different classroom management philosophies or approaches, such as assertive discipline, positive behavior support, or restorative practices.

Utilize credible sources, including scholarly articles, educational books, or reputable websites

2. Writing Your Philosophy

Compose a half page to one-page paper that includes:

Introduction: Briefly explain the significance of classroom management and your interest in developing an effective philosophy.

Research Insights: Summarize key insights from your research on 3 different philosophies in your own words and with direct citations

Personal Philosophy: Create your own personal philosophy of classroom management based on your research, highlighting your core beliefs and values.

Strategies and Practices: Describe specific strategies or practices you plan to implement in your classroom that align with your philosophy.

Conclusion: Reflect on how your philosophy will guide your actions as an educator and contribute to a positive learning environment.

3. Formatting and Submission

   – The paper should be a half page to one page, single-spaced, using 12-point font and 1-inch margins.

   – Include citations for at least two sources in APA format at the end of the paper.

   – Submit your paper as a Word document or PDF. Do not try to type your paper straight into the text box in Canvas.

Keep in mind that this will become a living document for you. Your personal philosophy of classroom management will change and grow as you gain experience in the classroom. By the end of this course there may be things you want to add or change to this document. This is designed to be your foundation on which to build upon moving forward.
