Develop a Competitive Matrix for McDonald’s

Textbook Learning Exercise 3B

Steps 1-3

Monitoring competitors’ performance and strategies is a key aspect of an external audit. This exercise is designed to give you practice in evaluating the competitive position of organizations in a given industry and assimilating that information in a CPM.

Step 1. Get familiar with the free templates at the StrategyClub website
; you can click on CPM. Use the template to save you time in completing this exercise. Be mindful that the template does not itself access the internet to find key factors to include in a CPM. You need to do that and then enter that information into the template. The template is widely used by organizations in preparing a CPM.

Step 2. Turn back to the Cohesion Case in Chapter 1 and review the section on competitors. Also view online resources that compare McDonald’s with Burger King. Use the sources listed in Table 3-7.

Step 3. Prepare a CPM that includes McDonald’s and Burger King.
