DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Chapter 9 Discussion Question:
You are a preschool teacher with
English Language Learners in your classroom. What are you doing to make sure that the child has appropriate early learning experiences and meets learning objectives?
Chapter 10 Discussion Question:
You have just attended a workshop on nurturing healthy attitudes about food in early childhood programs. The presenter emphasized that providing nutritious meals and snacks is not enough; children have to eat the foods to benefit from them, and children benefit in many ways when they enjoy meals and snacks at school. You are convinced they are more likely to eat what they prepare, and that cooking experiences can support their development in many ways. The preschool teachers in your center have indicated that they believe cooking activities can be overwhelming. They are reluctant to cook with their children. What kinds of cooking activities would you encourage them to try first with preschoolers? What rationale would you present to justify your expectation that all preschool teachers will frequently prepare snacks and meals with their children?
