Dialysis care has become a popular healthcare service over the last few decades. Your employer has decided to get into the market and open a dialysis clinic. Your background in CPT coding and knowledge of medical terminology has landed you the task of training the new staff on dialysis and the CPT coding involved. Management has also decided to embark on a new endeavor related to evaluating specimens, or in other words, pathology. The new staff will also need to be knowledgeable of pathology coding and the classification of specimens according to the CPT manual.

For this assignment, you will create and facilitate a 10-minute PowerPoint slideshow presentation, with audio, outlining dialysis care and pathology testing. Your training session should do the following:

Give a description of what dialysis care consists of and the process of the service.

  • Explain, in detail, how a patient’s age and the number of visits impacts CPT coding.
  • Outline the CPT modifiers that may (or may not) be used when coding dialysis care.

Give an outline of the ICD-10-CM official guidelines involving pathology.

  • Describe the 6 levels of surgical pathology; Explain how severity influences this coding block.
  • Describe how pathology consultation codes 80503-80506 are impacted by complexity and time.

Your employer wants this CPT training session to connect with employees on how their day-to-day actions impacts their community. Your training presentation needs to outline the growth in the dialysis market and the need for this medical service. Make sure to discuss end stage renal disease and how patients live with kidney failure.

Your training session must be at least 10 minutes and include recorded audio narration. You must use at least one outside source to support your presentation. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment.
