INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH PAPER: OUTLINE AND REFERENCES ASSIGNMENT
INSTRUCTIONS

INSTRUCTIONS: You will complete a full-sentence outline for the second part of this paper.
The outline must include:

1. Thesis Statement: Clearly state the main argument or position of your research
paper.

2. Question(s)/Issues Being Addressed: Identify the research question(s) or issues that
your paper will explore or address.

3. Outline Structure: Provide a detailed outline structure indicating how the paper will
be organized, including how much space will be allotted for each section.

4. Preliminary Reference List: Include a preliminary reference list of at least 5
scholarly sources that are less than 10 years old. The final paper will also need to
include the use of your course textbook and Biblical integration

The full sentence outline format is essentially the same as the alphanumeric outline. The main
difference (as the title suggests) is that full sentences are required at each level of the outline.
This outline is most often used when preparing a traditional essay.

Example:

Thesis Statement: The impact of social media on mental health among adolescents is a growing
concern in contemporary society and there is a belief that the younger population is impacted.

Question(s)/Issues Being Addressed:

I. Introduction of topic and focus of paper (1/2 a page of content)

A. Background information on the rise of social media usage among adolescents (1 page of
content)

II. Effects of Social Media on Mental Health A. Influence of social media usage on self-esteem
and body image (3/4 pages of content)

B. Relationship between excessive screen time and depressive symptoms

III. Strategies for Mitigating Negative Effects

A. Promoting digital literacy and responsible social media usage

B. Encouraging offline social interactions and activities IV. Conclusion
