Select a patient from your clinical experience with concerns for breast health. Construct differential diagnoses of a female patient based on symptomatology, labs, and diagnostic studies. Build into your response test results and what else might be ordered. Include labs and diagnostics. Analyze physical findings to differentiate between normal, variations of normal, and signs of pathology to formulate actual and differential diagnoses. Answer the following questions, supporting your findings with evidence-based practice.
1. Provide a brief scenario of your patient, symptoms, your exam, labs and diagnostics.
2. Discuss the mammogram results or possible results, and the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) based on the radiologic findings. What are other features of the mammogram that help guide the classification?
3. How might breast density impact the results?
4. Address your differential diagnoses, initial primary diagnosis and needed follow up, including the outcome if known.
