Creating units that integrate the content areas supports the learning of young students through themes, projects, and topics that are reflective of their interests. The learning experiences students participate in during these integrated units are deeper and help them make meaningful connections across the curriculum.

Select a social studies theme that would be appropriate for the grade level of your field experience classroom. Complete the “ELA, Social Studies, and the Arts Unit Outline” template by identifying one ELA, one social studies, and one arts state standard for each day that complement each other. The ELA and social studies standards can remain the same for the duration of the unit. Select a minimum of one standard from each of the following arts areas to integrate into the unit plan outline: visual, dance and/or theater, and music. The selected standards will inform other assignments in this course.

Support this assignment with a minimum of three scholarly resources.
