As I look toward my future career in social work, I am increasingly interested in advancing into a leadership position. I aspire to influence organizational policies, advocate for clients on a broader scale, and foster a positive and ethical work environment. Moving into a supervisory role would allow me to mentor staff, ensure effective service delivery, and contribute to systemic change within the organization.

Beyond my current interest, I am also drawn to the area of community organizing and policy advocacy. This area excites me because it involves addressing social injustices at a macro level, empowering communities, and influencing policy reforms that can lead to long-term societal improvements. Engaging in policy change aligns with my passion for social justice and my desire to create sustainable impacts beyond individual casework.

A significant idea from this course that will be valuable in my future role is the importance of effective supervision and leadership in promoting ethical practice and staff development. Understanding various leadership styles and the components of effective organization management equips me to lead teams more effectively, foster collaboration, and uphold the core values of social work (NASW, n.d.). This knowledge will be instrumental as I take on managerial responsibilities and strive to create an empowering work environment.

Thoughts on your future career goals and your interest in moving into a leadership or management position.

Currently I am a core program supervisor for parent partners and support counselors in an intensive home based wrap around service. This is not a job I thought I would be in as i love working in strip and with juveniles in the justice system. This position fell into my lap and just like the video I’m trying it out. In the future I want to be in more of an Administrator role as i like to be in the back end. I really would like to work in the probation system. But I have to see where the road takes me as I haven’t found something I absolutely love.

Based on the video and other research you have done, what is another area of social work that might interest you? Why?

I haven’t really done a lot of research regarding other areas but I would like to explore more. Some other areas are geriatrics as I love working with the elderly. I also have always had a heart to deal with hospice as i use to be a CNA many years ago and just dealing with the deaths of my own family members its something that never really bothered me. I also want to be able to help the family members about death and to give them comfort during their loved ones passing.

Explain at least one significant idea or experience from this course that may be of value in preparing you for a future role.

If I ever get the want or need to open my own organization I now know what has to go into it. Also something I have been reading more on is Kotter 8 steps for leading change. This is something I brought up to my other employees and to my surprise no one had heard of it but was interested in it. The create a sense of urgency hit home in my current line of work as we have 6 months to help families so at some point we have to make the outcome as urgent and positive as possible.
