Objectives: The Final Paper is designed to:

  • Provide an opportunity to further explore minority-majority group relations, theory, or topic that you find especially interesting.
  • Provide reinforcement and elaboration of textual material related to minority-majority group relations, theory, or topic.
  • Provide an opportunity to review other research and findings.
  • Extend critical thinking skills, empirical and quantitative skills, social responsibility understanding (intercultural knowledge and competence), and communication skills.

Instructions:

  • Develop a Research Paper by researching empirical articles about minority-majority group relations, theory, or topic identified in the textbook.
  • You may choose any topic from the textbook that you would like to learn more about. Your topic should be narrow enough to be able to write the paper without being overwhelmed and broad enough to gather enough information for the paper requirements.
  • Your paper needs to have an introduction, body, and conclusion, which all need to contain specific elements listed in the content below.

Format:

  • Minimum of 3 pages in length, not including your title and reference page.
  • Minimum of 3 Empirical References (Search the CTC online library).
  • Double spaced. Use size 12 font Times New Roman.
  • Set margins to one inch on all sides.
  • Be sure to include a title page with your name/course title/date/assignment title.
  • Write in complete sentences, academic language, and correct spelling.
  • APA documentation style must be used when citing references.
  • Your paper will be run through Safe Assign to prevent plagiarism.

Introduction:

  • Must contain an attention grabber for the reader or at least make the essay sound interesting, may begin with a quote about the particular topic.
  • Provides the reader with a “road map” of the essay in a logical order.
  • At the end, there should be what is called a thesis statement.
  • The thesis statement states the aim of the paper and may give insight into the author’s examples and evidence.

Body:

  • Includes the empirical evidence and support of the paper in addition to the author’s ideas.
  • Paragraphs must include a topic sentence that relates the discussion back to the thesis statement.
  • Organize the topics logically where they flow well from one topic to the next.
  • Ensure that transition sentences are present to create a good flow to the essay.
  • Include substantial examples and evidence to support your argument and remember to use in-text citations when you are providing any information, definition, or data from your articles. Review the writing resources listed below for formatting guidance.
  • Direct quotations should not take up any more than 15% of your paper.
  • Your research should reflect intercultural knowledge and competence, empirical and quantitative skills, critical thinking skills, and communication skills (see rubric for details).

Conclusion:

  • This section should wrap all of your arguments and points.
  • Should restate the main arguments in a simplified manner.

TOPIC:

My topic is going to be about how different races are treated in the United States. I chose this topic because I believe as a black woman I need to be as educated as possible in this topic because I am affected by how races are treated, as well as my future children.

The article from the database discusses the racial privilege that white people have in the United States. It goes over the racial discrimination that non-white people face, at the same time. A comparison between former President Barack Obama and Former/ Current President Donald Trump is made as they were treated very differently due to race. The different types of discrimination are explained in all different forms. The results of the historical rallies from 2020 after the George Floyd murder is a current example of how non-white is even treated by police, which causes people to push “police reform.” How the different races are treated is still an ongoing debate that is discussed daily.

This topic is significant to me personal because I am directly affected by this as a black woman. I have black family members in my family and could experience being treated horribly any day. It’s important that we stay as educated as possible because lack of knowledge also contributes to why we are facing these issues.
