FDNT 670 Comprehensive Exam Review Guide*
The exam will cover information from your MS Nutrition and Wellness classes and well as your
internship.
You will need to be detailed with your answers and give examples. Landmark studies should also be
mentioned when appropriate.
You are not allowed to utilize any computerized or printed resources or any other assistance for this
exam.
The exam is a pass/fail grade.
TEST FORMAT
Comprehensive Exam, Part A
You will be given a set of 9 question and are required to answer 5 of the 9 questions. Answers need to be
SA format.
Comprehensive Exam, Part B
You will be given a set of 6 question and are required to answer 3 of the 6 questions. Answers need to be
SA format.
Total Time Allowed: 4 hours
Passing Grade for Each Question: 70%
Be able to answer questions related to the following:
• Discuss benefits and risks of plant based diet.
• 2018 physical activity guidelines for Americans. Related to the physical activity
guidelines describe a physical activity recommendations for someone in your age group.
Discuss vegetarian based pre and post workout snacks.
• Discuss the benefits and dangers of nutritional and herbal supplements. Discuss what to
consider when choosing a nutrition supplement.
• Be able to describe the five Stages of Change and the possible stage-matched health
interventions. Give examples of each stage.
• Be able to explain various types of fats and their impact on health, healthy and refined
carbs impact of health, and sources of omega-3 and their role in prevention and treatment
of different diseases.
• Identify the congenital problems or other detrimental outcomes of pregnancy associated
with specific nutrient deficiencies. What nutritional practices and other lifestyle factors
are associated with poor pregnancy outcomes? How do the RDA’s change during
pregnancy? Describe special concerns that exists for a pregnant woman who are obese or
have diabetes; discuss nutritional therapy.
• Explain in detail the dangers and concerns associated with the use of caffeinated
beverages.
• Discuss the latest guidelines to manage hypercholesterolemia. Explain the differences in
recommendations for a patient that are plant based and meat-based.
• Discuss the latest guidelines for diabetes prevention. Include land mark studies.
• Discuss latest treatment guidelines for diabetes. Include all lifestyle components as well
as blood glucose goals and diagnostic guidelines.
• Discuss how a hospital café would implement a vegetarian based theme meal from start
to finish.
• Discuss how to implement a vegetarian cooking class from start and finish. Include
cultural considerations.
• Discuss the process to make a change in public policy (this needs to be detailed and
include the legislative process including the role of the house and the senate).
• Explain the process of development and evaluation for a community nutrition and
wellness program.
