Week 2 Discussion: Continue Your DiscussionEthical Social Work Practice

Social work is a profession that works directly with people and systems. Our work requires that we maintain strong ethical principals in all aspects. In this discussion, we will explore the concepts of ethical social work practice in a research setting. Here are some ideas for your discussion:

  • Review the National Public Radio segment, Stop Blaming Tuskegee, Critics Say. It’s Not an ‘Excuse’ For Current Medical Racism. You can find this resource in Week 2: Ethics and ResearchLinks to an external site.. What is your understanding of how racism exists in healthcare as a result of research practices? How might you, as a social worker, begin to address some of these unethical practices?
  • Share a link for a video or library article related to why, ethically, social workers must use anti-racist research practices when conducting research. What do you think are the most important points about what you have shared?
  • Share a link for a video or library article related to other ethical considerations in research. What do you think are the most important points about what you have shared?
  • What are some of the ways you might apply your knowledge of ethical practice in social work research?
