Ashley is a student in your third period class. It’s the middle of October and you are struggling to build a relationship with her like you have been building with some of the other students. She is very apprehensive to share about her life outside of school. Recently, she has been getting into more trouble with her peers. She’s quick to yell back at people and threatens to fight them. A few days ago, another teacher asked you about Ashley, saying, “What’s wrong with her?”

Use what you learned from the session today to respond to your colleague.

  • What would you say to your colleague when she asks, “What’s wrong with her?”
  • Justify why you responded in that way. Use what you learned about using a trauma lens for student behavior in this session.
  • Explain how using a trauma lens connects to educational equity.
  • Your response and justification should be at least 5 sentences.
