Assessment Description

For this topic’s assignment, you will create a PowerPoint presentation that discusses your cultural background and your own related experiences. In addition, you will record yourself delivering the presentation using the speaker notes that you will include in your PowerPoint. When discussing your culture, consider components of yourself such as race, ethnicity, religion, spiritual heritage, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, socioeconomic status, traditions, and family heritage. You are not required to include any information you do not feel comfortable sharing. 

Assignment Requirements: 

  • A 9-10-slide PowerPoint including a title slide and reference slide (title and reference slides are not included in slide count). 
  • Detailed speaker notes a minimum of 100 words on each content-related slide that represent what would be said if you were giving the presentation in person. Expand upon the information included in the slide and do not simply restate it. 
  • A 9–10-minute video using your GCU licensed Zoom account to record yourself giving the presentation with both your camera and microphone on. The instructor will need a Zoom link placed in the speaker notes of the title slide of the PowerPoint. Refer to the “GCU Zoom Resources: Counseling and Social Work” in Class Resources. 
  • Three to five scholarly resources supporting your cultural views. Refer to the dispositional values for your respective programs in the Class Resources. 
  • Appropriate APA based in-text citations and references. 

PowerPoint Requirements:

Include the following in your presentation, note the required number of slides for each bullet point: 

  • Communication styles of your culture (verbal and nonverbal) (1-2 slides) 
  • Aspects of your culture you are proud of (1 slide) 
  • Aspects of your culture that you would like to improve upon (1-2 slides) 
  • Stereotypes toward your culture (1 slide) 
  • Stereotypes held within your culture (1 slide) 
  • How your culture perceives substance use. Are there any traditional uses of substances that are deemed culturally acceptable? (1 slide) 
  • How your culture perceives counseling (1 slide) 
  • How your cultural background will influence your ability to counsel someone from within your culture Refer to the dispositional values for your respective programs in the Class Resources. (1 slide) 
  • How your cultural background will influence your ability to counsel someone from another culture. Refer to the dispositional values for your respective programs in the Class Resources. (1 slide)
