Week 5 Assignment

Objective: To explain a child growth and development theory and describe parenting techniques
following a chosen theory’s perspective.

Assignment format: PowerPoint with 8 – 10 content slides, and in addition 1 introductory slide, and
in addition 1 ending references slide. (maximum total 12 slides)

Intended audience: Beginning childcare professionals who will have to talk with parents about
research-based parenting techniques.

1. Select one children’s growth and development theory from the choices below:

• John Bowlby’s Attachment theory

• Piaget Constructivist theory

• Vygotsky’s Sociocultural theory

• Erikson’s theory of Psychosocial Development

• Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Theory of Development

1. Outline the theorist’s perspective on children’s growth and development from birth to 5
years of age.

2. Describe at least 3 parenting techniques from birth to 5 years of age that are supportive of
the theorist’s perspective on fostering a child’s development. Please see the grading
rubric for additional details. 3 techniques is basis for an average grade and is not
considered exemplary.

3. Content should be presented and organized in a visually pleasing manor. Use clip-
art/images to break up text. Do not use a black background.

4. Support your work with 3 or more authoritative sources. (Please see the grading rubric for
additional information on how your work will be graded.) Include citations on the
appropriate slides and a full reference slide at the end of your presentation using APA
format. (For assistance with APA formatting, please see the APA Style Guide in the APUS
Library.
