M1E1: HIM Manager Interview Script, Questions and Contact

For the Long Essay, you will interview an HIM Manager prior to Week 5 regarding the challenges they face related to the EHR, Speech Recognition, and the challenges of complying with HIPAA.  This week you will prepare for this interview by completing the script you will use to solicit your interview and drafting the interview questions you will use to conduct your interview.

Due this Week:

1. Prepare an email and/or telephone script you will use to solicit your interview with potential HIM Manager(s)/Director(s).

2. Prepare the set of interview questions you will use to conduct your interview. Out of respect for the manager’s time, limit the interview to 10 questions and 20-30 minutes. Your questions should aimed at gathering information to identify the challenges listed above, and refrain from “getting to know you” type questions.

3. Prepare a contact list of proposed HIM Managers/Directors/facilities for you to contact. Include the facility name, director name, email, and/or phone number.

4. The script, interview questions, and contact list can be completed on one Word document, using page breaks to separate each section.

Due Week 5 (essay) and Week 6 (discussion):

The Long Essay will be a 3-4 page paper that describes the outcome of your interview and incorporates research on the topics from at least 2 sources. The final essay is due in Module 5 and the discussion question in Module 6. More detailed instructions, including the grading rubric, are available in Module 5.

Please refer to the attached grading rubric while completing your assignment. All graded requirements are explained in detail in he rubric.
