PSY 121: Developmental Psychology Learning Unit 7: Journal

Journal: Egocentrism or Contraceptives

SLO: Analyze biological, cognitive, and socioemotional developmental processes for adolescence, apply

developmental psychological content to real-life situations to include individual differences, beliefs,

values, and interpersonal relationships, and develop critical thinking skills.

Journals consist of free writing that demonstrates your ability to critically think about the presented

content. A prompt is provided for you to respond to for this activity. As you consider a response, make

sure to incorporate content from the unit in your response. There is no assigned page or word amount;

however, critically thinking about the prompt and being able to share your thoughts in a logical,

organized manner is the criteria for grading. The Critical Thinking rubric will be used to grade this

assignment.

Select 1 prompt to respond to for your initial post.

1. Describe a time during your adolescence when you overestimated how much other people

were thinking about you. How was your mistake similar to and different from adolescent

egocentrism? Now, think of a life-changing decision you made as an adolescent. How did logic

and emotion interact? What would you have changed if you had given the matter more thought

–or less?

2. Should birth control be available in public high schools – to reduce unintended teenage

pregnancy? If so, which kinds [e.g., condom machines in restrooms, free condoms in a

designated location, etc.]? Who and where should they be dispensed? Should students gain

permission from their parents prior to receiving a contraceptive? Explain your reasoning for your

answer.

Submit by clicking on the Journal assignment heading (maroon in color), click “Create Journal Entry”,

provide a title, copy and paste your response into the Entry Message area or type your response directly

in to this area. Make sure to use spell check and double check for correct grammar and conventions.to
