Assignment #1 – Critical Issues in Literacy

For this assignment, you will select a topic related to critical issues in literacy/reading in the elementary classroom. Some examples of issues in literacy include the use of technology when teaching literacy, growing gaps in literacy skills, and differentiating instruction when working with literacy. Other examples include undiagnosed learning disabilities, having limited English language skills, limited access to books, a school’s ability to meet each student’s reading challenges, and large and growing gaps in literacy skills by socioeconomic status. Read a minimum of five reference sources (two of which may be the course textbooks) on the selected topic and write a report following these instructions:

· Introduction

· Review, summary, and analysis (making connection with course content) of the articles’ content 

· Conclusion

· List of cited references, following APA format (7th ed.).
