Positive Social Change Project

  • Positive Social Change Project:

Our world is full of known social problems. Common social issues include poverty, social stratification, gender inequality, healthcare availability, quality of education, declining standards of living, gun violence, ageism, racism, war & conflict, climate change, access to clean water, deforestation, the technology gap, urbanization, etc.

There are several parts to this project.

Step 1:

Select a social-issue from the list above. Write a 500-word essay in APA 7 format, answering each of the following questions:

  • Why is the topic you selected worthy of sociological investigation?
  • What is the role of human activity in the creation and perpetuation of this issue?
  • Which sociological perspective aligns best with your argument/analysis? (conflict theory, functionalism, symbolic interactionism)
  • Why is social research and the scientific method an essential element for positive social change?
  • What can you do to help?

Step 2:  Locate a relevant scholarly article from an academic journal from AACC’s online library database, and a current event article (less than 5 years old) that both relate to your topic.

Step 3: Post your project below for everyone to read. Share your 500 word essay, your scholarly article, and current event article with the class! Include a YouTube video or relevant documentary link.  Then, respond to your classmates’ projects and be inspired!

Step 4: Post a relevant short video or documentary. You can find video links on Youtube, TikTok, news sources, etc. Feel free to get creative for this portion. Pick something interesting you think your fellow classmates will be interested in watching.
