PSY 121: Developmental Psychology Learning Unit 2: Assignment

Controversies Surrounding Stem Cell Research

SLO: Examine prenatal development and identify the stages of birth, apply developmental psychological

content to real-life situations to include individual differences, beliefs, values, and interpersonal

relationships, and develop critical thinking skills.

Stem cell research is currently one of the hot-button topics and issues in American politics and society

today. To gain a better appreciation of the pros and cons concerning the use of stem cells, go to the

IHCC Library, Library Databases (Gale, EBSCO HOST, or any other database) for information on this topic.

You may be asked for a username and password. Once you log into MyHills, in the blue, left side of the

page, you will see “Assist”. Click there and locate Library Database Passwords.

Once in a database, use the search terms “stem cell and research” or “stem cell and controversy.” Then,

based on what you read, compose a bulleted document in which you identify and defend five (5)

reasons supporting (pro’s of) stem cell research and five (5) reasons opposing (con’s) of stem cell

research. The last bullet should discuss your personal thoughts on using stem cells in detail based on

your research.

No title page is needed; however, you must have a Reference page with at least 4-6 sources for this

assignment. Just to clarify, you will have 11 bullets, 5 pros, 5 cons, and 1 opinion. Remember to site

using APA formatting.

Submit to appropriate location in the unit.
