Increasingly we use photographs to both understand what is going on the world around us (Example: photos in the news and on social media) and to express what is going on in our lives (photos we take with our phones and share with others via text or social media).

For this discussion board,
you have a choice:

Pick one of the two options below:

Option A:

1. Take a photo that captures your current daily environment. (For example: Perhaps you are a parent as well as a student, or maybe you work full or part time in addition to studying. Maybe you are most excited about a personal project, interest or hobby that dominates your interior life and that is what you’d like to showcase in your photograph.)

2. Tell us a little bit about what is expressed by your photograph.

3. Tell us about the process of making it. What was your inspiration? How did you compose the photograph? Why did you choose this depiction?

4. Attach or embed the photograph to your post.

Option B:

1. Visit one of the following news media sites and look at their photographs that depict critical current events: New York times:
www.nytimes.com, Links to an external site. Yahoo News:
to an external site. BBC:
to an external site.

2. Pick one photo that resonates with you.

3. Describe what is happening in the photograph.

4. Explain why this photograph resonates with you more than other photographs. What does this photo express?

5. How do photographs convey information to us differently than written news reports (please be more specific than saying a picture is worth a thousand words)

6. Attach the photograph to your post
