Week 2 Application Assignment: Anxiety Disorders

Overview

Anxiety and adjustment disorders can arise from the simple fact that life is stressful. Your own experience might tell you that expectations from family, friends, work, as well as your own expectations regarding achievement, success, and happiness can create feelings of anxiety. While stress might be difficult to handle, the resulting anxiety disorders can have even more disruptive or devastating effects. This week, you will focus on anxiety disorders and explore strategies for addressing not only the triggers for your clients’ anxiety, but also coping strategies

Assignment 2 will help you to clarify your understanding of the Anxiety Disorders. You should also listen to the lecture, review supplemental materials, and use the rubrics as guides to help you complete the assignment. This assignment will count toward your final grade and is due by Day 7. It is worth 75 points.

Directions

For this assignment, you will select two of the following anxiety disorders to discuss:

· Panic Disorder (with or without Agoraphobia)

· Specific Phobia

· Social Phobia

· Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

· Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

· Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Write a short paper (2-3 text pages) distinguishing between the two anxiety based diagnoses you selected. In what ways are they similar? In what ways do they differ? What are the typical causes for each and what are the generally approved treatments? Use your textbooks and the DSM to support your writing. You may also use information from other scholarly sources such as articles found in the Lamar library. Be sure to write your paper using APA style and cite all references accordingly.
