LITL 8000: Interviews with ELL Student & Teacher

Instruction:

· Locate 1 teacher of ELL students and 1 current or former ELL student and conduct interviews using the provided questions. Optionally, you may observe an ELL classroom and include these observations in your report.

· Report Guidelines: Write a 3–5-page report, Including brief demographic information about the student and teacher, and an overview of their teaching and learning experiences.

· Support the insights gathered with at least 5 academic references that pertain to ELL contexts. 
APA Style (information online) is required.


ELL student Interview questions:

1. What factors have positively influenced your English language development, and what obstacles have you encountered? How have these factors affected your ability to learn English?

2. Can you describe how easy or difficult it was to develop literacy skills in English, and what specific factors influenced your experience?

3. What types of lessons, activities, strategies, techniques, and materials were used in your English instruction? Were these methods effective, and is there anything you wish had been done differently?

4. How have language and education policies in your area impacted your English learning? Please describe both positive and negative effects.

5. Have you participated in any specific English language learning programs? Please share details about the instruction, curriculum, and how your experience compares with the official program descriptions.


ELL Teacher Interview questions:

1. Could you describe the types of ELL students you have in your classroom? What specific challenges do these students face in their language learning journey?

2. Do you enjoy working with ELL students? What aspects of teaching ELLs do you find most rewarding or challenging?

3. What teaching methods or approaches do you currently use to help your students learn English? Why have you chosen these particular methods, and how effective have they been in improving your students’ language skills?

4. Based on your experience, what advice would you give to other or future teachers of ELLs to help them succeed in this role?

5. Could you describe the ELL program you are involved in, including its rationale, academic and linguistic goals, and the curriculum? How do you balance the use of English and the students’ home languages in your classroom? What does a typical day look like for your students, and how effective do you believe the program is in meeting the needs of the ELLs?
