Select a social problem that is currently in the news (within the last two weeks), and that we have not covered in other prompts during the semester. The social problem needs to be reported on in a professional news source (if you are not sure, please contact me). Once you have found a social problem, respond to the following prompts (responding by number is fine, but do so in complete paragraphs, spelling and grammar count). Be sure to cite all sources you draw from, including the news source for the social problem. Use a professional citation style, such as MLA, to cite sources in the body of the response as you draw from them and with a reference list at the end of the response.

Respond to the following prompts:

1. Discuss the social problem, as it is reported in the news source.

  1. What is the social problem?
  2. Is it an objective or subjective social problem? Explain.
  3. Discuss the cause(s) of the social problem.
  4. Identify the group(s) that are being harmed by the social problem and what those harms are.
