A strong mentorship program provides an opportunity for experienced health care workers to share their knowledge and offer guidance to colleagues. As a manager at a health care organization, you have been asked to develop a personal leadership philosophy as an example for a mentorship program’s participants that your leadership team has instituted for developing new leaders. You’ll also discuss the advantages that mentorship programs provide for both mentors and mentees.

Preparation 

Review the articles and videos in the University Library.

Review the “Employees First, Customers Second“ podcast from Mind Tools on leadership philosophies and styles. 

Review the following articles on mentorship:

  • “Steps to Building a Formal Mentorship Program” by Shawntea “Taya” Gordon from MGMA
  • Mentor Network page on the ACHE website
  • “5 Step Guide for Successful Mentorship Programs” from Chronus

Assessment Deliverable

Create a 10- to 14-slide presentation in which you:

  • Describe your personal leadership philosophy.
  • Describe what leadership theories support your personal leadership philosophy.
  • Describe what leadership style you think would be most effective for you to use as a leader in health care.
  • Describe what personal characteristics you possess that you believe would make you an effective leader.
  • Explain how mentoring from a current health care leader could help you become a successful leader.
  • Explain how mentoring future leaders can benefit you after you become a leader in health care

Presentation Formatting Requirements

Ensure your presentation includes the following: 

  • A title slide
  • A references slide
  • Detailed speaker notes for each slide that are a minimum of 50 words per slide

Citations and References Formatting Requirements 

Cite a minimum of 3 references to support your presentation. 

Format citations and references according to APA guidelines.
