1.    Explore the significance of the title of this section. How does Capote characterize both the Clutter family and the people who saw them last? 

2.    Analyze the literary techniques Capote uses to heighten the mood of mystery and suspense in Part I. How does Capote build suspense, despite the fact that the reader already knows that the Clutters will be murdered? 

3.    Analyze how Capote characterizes Dick and Perry from the first time we see them until they’re both sound asleep at the end of Part I where Perry is described as having “fallen face down across the bed, as though sleep were a weapon       that had struck him from behind” (Capote 73).
