This assignment focuses on Piaget’s theory of cognitive development, Vygotsky’s theory of sociocultural development, and language development.

Instructions

For this paper, think about a child you have had contact with (either your own, a relative or friend, or a child in a TV show or other media) and write a 2-3 page paper in which you summarize the strengths and weaknesses of Piaget’s stages of cognitive development and Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory of development using the child of your choice to explain 3-5 aspects of Piaget and Vygotsky’s theories. Be sure to also use those examples to describe how cognitive and sociocultural development support language development.

In your paper you should”

Identify the basic characteristics of the child you chose for your analysis.

The strengths and weaknesses of Piaget’s theory. Using the child you chose, offer specific examples of how Piaget’s theory fits and maybe doesn’t quite fit.

Then do the same with Vgotsky’s theory

Which theory was a best fit in your child development analysis? Why? If both fit in different ways, explain how.
