I can recall my first field trip in middle school. Going to bush gardens. I can recall how we had recived the trust from our teachers to roam freely but still had to meet at certain times to assure we are safe. This built a character in all of us that day. We felt free to be us without any supervision. Up to that day every field trip prior had to be walking in straight line or always with a chaperone. I can still recall the sense of shock when hearing from the teacher we will be on our own. That field trip has always remained in my memory. This shows to me now the importance of giving adolescents the liberty at times to be independent. To allow them to be adolescents but in a controlled environment always.
