Ceramic artist: Warren McKenzie
Objective: The purpose of this project is to research the life and work of a ceramic artist who has made substantial contributions to the world of ceramic art. In the process you will accomplish a number of different goals. Participating in visual research is an essential skill for any artist working in any medium regardless of age or experience. Understanding the context and content of an artist’s work is imperative for assimilation of ideas into your own work and putting these ideas down on paper in a coherent manner serves to further strengthen your understanding of the subject matter.
And lastly, this project will hopefully expose you to the breadth of ceramic history, tradition, and culture that humans have created Requirements: – 2-3 representative images to accompany paper – Minimum of 4 sources( documented with bibliography): 2 sources have to be from a hard bound book (one of these can be the textbook the other sources should be periodicals Below are SOME questions you HAVE TO answer in the essay: – born/died where and when – went to school, where and when job(s)held – what kind of process (be specific) is used in the making of their work (is it wheel thrown, handbuilt, slip cast, mold made, high-fire, low-fire electric-fired, gas-fired, wood-fired etc.)? – what kind of work is it (sculptural, functional, installation, etc.)? – what traditions are being followed or broken, how is this important? – what do they say about their work (artist statement, interview, etc.)
