Discussion Topic 2 of 2:
(1) Identify an industry or “type of company” (you don’t have to “name any names”) in which you have worked in the past.
(2) Consider the Five Forces from the “External Analysis” sections in the book, lecture videos, and my summary of the concepts. Which elements of the Five Forces stand out to you about this INDUSTRY CONTEXT? In other words, rivalry is extremely high now in the restaurant industry, but for a large restaurant chain, supplier power might be relatively low because big chains wield relatively more power over their suppliers. While Five Forces is fundamentally about the industry, of course some firms may experience different levels of these forces based on how they are positioned in the industry (e.g., McDonald’s looks very different from Cafe Mandu in Irving, Texas).
